How Shanti Travel Started Its Journey

Expert voyage Shanti Travel Jérémy GRASSET

Jeremy Grasset

Jeremy Grasset, the director and co-founder of Shanti Travel, fell in love with India during a visit as a business school student. His first encounter with the bustling streets of Kolkata was a transformative experience, one that drew him to settle in this vibrant country for ten years. During his time exploring the many layers of Indian culture, he met Alexandre Le Beuan, and together they co-founded Shanti Travel in 2005, with a vision to offer authentic and immersive travel experiences in India. Having lived in Chennai and Pondicherry, Jeremy developed a deep affinity for South India and its rich cultural heritage. He remains passionate about sharing India's spiritual festivals, from the radiant lights of Diwali to the powerful rituals of Durga Puja, honoring the goddess Durga. If you're seeking a more meaningful connection with Indian traditions, Jeremy’s journey, and Shanti’s will guide you there.

Alexandre Lebeuan

Alexandre Lebeuan’s fascination with the Himalayas began at the age of seven, inspired by his mountaineering parents and their love for high-altitude adventure. This early connection sparked a deep passion for South Asian culture and languages. At INALCO in Paris, Alexandre mastered Hindi, Nepali, Urdu, and Tibetan, setting the stage for a life of exploration. His travels led him through Rajasthan and remote parts of the Indian Himalayas, where he guided trekkers and honed a deep understanding of what makes a journey transformative. After becoming a certified mountain guide in France, Alexandre returned to Asia to craft tailor-made trekking tours for a niche operator, splitting his time between rugged expeditions and behind-the-scenes logistics. These formative experiences laid the foundation for Shanti Travel's philosophy: combining off-the-beaten-path adventure with cultural immersion. Alexandre’s lifelong love for Asia continues to shape the way Shanti designs meaningful, mindful journeys across the region.

The Team That Makes Shanti Travel Exceptional

Audrey

Marketing & Communication – France

Travel and discovery have been part of my story for as long as I can remember. Over the past 15 years, my work as a production manager has taken me across Asia and the Americas, shaping a deep passion for immersive journeys. But it was the grey skies of Paris that inspired a brighter leap to India, a country that holds a special place in my heart. At Shanti Travel, I found my purpose. I led our Delhi office for nearly three incredible years before returning to France, where I now focus on expanding Shanti’s vision from our European headquarters. My work connects me to travelers around the world, and I’m proud to help craft experiences that truly matter. My most magical travel memory? Watching the sunrise over Angkor Wat and laughing with children on Tonlé Sap Lake in Cambodia, moments forever etched in my heart.

Laure

Operations – Asia

My journey into the world of travel began two decades ago, when I founded my own agency in Georgia, nestled in the Caucasus Mountains. Since then, I’ve had the privilege of working with French-speaking teams across Russia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Ukraine, regions rich in history, culture, and hospitality. What inspires me most is working alongside local professionals people whose deep-rooted knowledge brings authenticity and soul to every custom-made journey we design. In 2022, a transformative trip to India opened my eyes to a vibrant world of contrasts, colors, and spiritual richness. Today, I’m proud to support Shanti Travel’s local teams across Asia, helping shape meaningful experiences that connect travelers to the true essence of a destination. My most magical travel memory? Watching the sunrise over the Ganges in Varanasi a moment of quiet reflection and timeless beauty that I carry with me always.

Manon

In Finance

My passion for travel began in childhood, sparked by family adventures across nearly every continent. That early love for exploration eventually led me to pursue a career in finance, combining numbers with a global perspective. After completing my studies in London, I moved to Asia in 2017 and joined the Shanti Travel team first in Bali, then in Vietnam where I worked across nearly every department. These experiences gave me a deep appreciation for both the destinations we serve and the people who bring each journey to life. Now back in France, I keep our budgets balanced and our dreams grounded: Excel sheets in one hand, a passport in the other. Because no matter where I am, I’m always ready for the next adventure. My most magical travel memory? Climbing Mount Batur in Bali at dawn watching the sunrise above the clouds was a moment of pure wonder.

Quentin

In Creation

I had the chance to join Shanti Travel right after finishing my studies, landing first in Sri Lanka, where I was immediately swept up by the energy and passion of the team. From the very beginning, I felt a strong connection to our mission: crafting meaningful travel experiences rooted in local culture and human connection. Over the past six years, that passion has only deepened. From the misty hills of Sri Lanka to the remote valleys of the Caucasus, I’ve lived countless immersive adventures that now inspire the way I design each itinerary. Back in France, I now lead trip creation, ensuring every journey reflects the Shanti signature: authentic, human, and deeply connected to the destinations we love. My most magical travel memory? Sitting beneath a blanket of stars in the Omani desert, listening to Bedouin songs and stories by firelight an unforgettable blend of silence, music, and soul.

Rajesh

In Innovation

I was born in New Delhi, with deep family roots in Rajasthan, and my journey with Shanti Travel began on March 16, 2006, when I joined the team as a driver-guide. What began as a simple love for the travel industry soon evolved into a passion for technology, operations, and team management. Over the past 19 years, I’ve grown alongside Shanti developing expertise in IT systems, streamlining administrative processes, and strengthening internal collaboration. Today, I lead innovation across the company, always working to enhance the tools and services that support both our team and our travelers. Behind the scenes, I ensure that every journey is powered by systems that are as seamless and thoughtful as the tailor-made trips we create.

Gayan

In IT and Development

I was born in Kandy, Sri Lanka, and my journey with Shanti Travel began in 2010 the very day we opened our Colombo office. At the time, I was completing my degree in IT and engineering, and I joined the team as an IT administrator. Since then, I’ve grown hand-in-hand with Shanti: first as IT Manager for Colombo, and later overseeing IT operations across our entire network. Since 2020, I’ve taken on the dual role of IT and Project Manager, and more recently, I’ve had the privilege of stepping into the role of General Manager of our Colombo office. Collaborating with colleagues across cultures has broadened my expertise, but what continues to drive me is the thrill of building innovative systems that support seamless, sustainable, and personalized travel experiences.

Komang

On the Ground in Indonesia

I was born in Bali, and my life philosophy is shaped by three guiding forces: preparation, opportunity, and luck a simple but powerful wisdom passed down from my father. I’m 42 years old, married, and a proud father of a daughter and a son. After completing my tourism degree in 2004, I stepped into the world of Indonesian travel, gaining experience in both tailor-made tours and group and corporate journeys. This dual perspective taught me how to adapt, lead, and create meaningful experiences that resonate with every kind of traveler. In 2017, I joined Shanti Travel, and today I serve as the Operations Manager for Indonesia. I pour my passion into crafting journeys that are not only seamless but also sustainable, culturally respectful, and grounded in local connection.
