Our early morning journey to Rishikesh began with high spirits and the expectation of a quick drive—until we remembered the unique pace of Indian roads. After a series of chai breaks at lively dhabas, we finally reached our tents overlooking the Ganges, choosing a rustic riverside camp for an authentic and peaceful immersion in nature. The absence of security locks in the tents initially raised concerns, but our guide reassured us of the mountain tranquility and low risks, setting the adventurous tone for the days to come.
Fatigued but fueled by excitement, we set off on a trek to the nearby Phool Chatti waterfall, opting for the trail that promised a bit of challenge and much reward. The crisp shower under the falls was a perfect antidote to the long drive, while evenings by the recreational area—complete with a volleyball court and trampoline—invited us to unwind before the bonfire. As dusk settled, the staff’s attentive hospitality elevated our bliss, from timely snacks to a memorable dinner against the backdrop of the flowing river and soft music.
The next day brought the highlight: our rafting adventure! Hundreds of enthusiasts gathered along the riverbank, guided by certified instructors who made safety the highest priority. We began our 16km descent through exhilarating rapids, especially thrilling during the prime September season when post-monsoon waters create a perfect balance of excitement and safety.
Safety in 2025 remains crucial—always wear a certified life jacket and helmet, listen to your guide, and avoid risky behavior. Rafting is allowed for those aged 14 and above, and multiple stretches are available, ranging from 9 km for beginners to 30 km for seasoned adventurers. Ensure you book with a licensed operator and consider booking your trip to India with a local expert for peace of mind.
Midway through, our group paused near a lively riverside spot—people dove from cliffs, exchanged stories, and enjoyed a quick bite of “masala maggi,” all sharing laughter and the unique spirit of Rishikesh. After the adventure, we returned to our tents, content and exhausted, ready for another cozy night by the river.
Refreshed by adventure but weary from the action, our return drive was quieter—punctuated not by conversation but by the satisfaction only a Himalayan escapade can deliver. Discover the magic and adrenaline of a trip to India, and let Rishikesh’s rapids inspire your next travel story!
