It is rich and suitable for everyone, but especially for gourmets who enjoy discovering new things. Healthy, tasty and varied, it can easily satisfy everyone's tastes, including vegetarians. Among the most famous dishes to try during your trip to Vietnam, we particularly recommend: - Phở: a rice noodle soup dish accompanied by slices of beef, basil, bean sprouts and spices. This is the country's most famous dish and one you absolutely must try on a trip to Vietnam. - Bánh mì: a Vietnamese sandwich filled with grilled meat, cucumbers, pickled carrots and coriander. - The bún chả: a grilled pork dish served with rice noodles, fresh herbs, vegetables and sweet and sour sauce. - Le bánh xèo: a crispy rice pancake filled with prawns, pork, bean sprouts and green onions. - Spring rolls: rice paper rolls filled with rice vermicelli, pork, prawns, mint and lettuce. Travelling to Vietnam will give you a unique opportunity to discover their cuisine and their thousand and one flavours. These are influenced by many other cultures, notably Cambodian, Malaysian and Indian.
Did you know? Vietnam was part of Indochina. It was a French colony in South-East Asia. It also included Laos and Cambodia. French Indochina was established in the 19th century and lasted until the end of the Second World War. The Indochina War (1946 to 1954) then divided the country into two parts: North Vietnam and South Vietnam. In 1975, North Vietnamese forces succeeded in retaking South Vietnam and reunifying the country. Today, Vietnam is an independent country with its own history and culture. However, you can still see the legacy of French Indochina at many levels. This is particularly true of Vietnam's architecture, cuisine and language.
If you want to enjoy a trip to Vietnam, you must have a valid passport. It must also be valid for at least 6 months after the date of entry into the country. This is a sine qua non condition for being able to cross the country's borders freely. The authorised length of stay or tour is 15 days. Depending on your nationality, you will also need a tourist visa.
Several countries, including France, have a visa exemption valid for 15 days. This means that their nationals do not need to apply for a visa when entering Vietnam. In addition, if your trip exceeds 15 days, you will need to apply for an e-visa. This allows you to stay in the country for up to 30 days. You will then be able to discover Vietnam in greater depth, particularly if you wish to explore Halong Bay at greater length.
It costs $25 to obtain an e-visa allowing you to extend your stay in Vietnam by up to 30 days. You can apply for one on the official Vietnamese immigration website. All you need is a scan of your passport and a recent passport photograph. Remember to do this several weeks before your flights.
