Did you know? Vietnam was part of Indochina. It was a French colony in South-East Asia. It also included Laos and Cambodia. French Indochina was established in the 19th century and lasted until the end of the Second World War. The Indochina War (1946 to 1954) then divided the country into two parts: North Vietnam and South Vietnam. In 1975, North Vietnamese forces succeeded in retaking South Vietnam and reunifying the country. Today, Vietnam is an independent country with its own history and culture. However, you can still see the legacy of French Indochina at many levels. This is particularly true of Vietnam's architecture, cuisine and language.
If you want to enjoy a trip to Vietnam, you must have a valid passport. It must also be valid for at least 6 months after the date of entry into the country.
